SUMMARY:Food in the Global Stocktake
DESCRIPTION:How can food system policies and initiatives help to course correct and achieve ambitious climate action called for throughout the Global Stocktake? \nToday’s food systems are responsible for one-third of global anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions\, a primary cause of environmental degradation\, and significantly contribute to socio-economic and health inequalities. \nAt the same time\, climate change has direct impacts on food systems\, affecting food production with cascading impacts on livelihoods\, food security\, food safety\, and nutrition. \nIf current trends continue\, emissions from the food system are projected to rise significantly in coming decades\, both contributing further to these impacts and jeopardizing the temperature goals of the Paris Agreement — even if fossil fuels were phased out immediately. \nThe Global Stocktake is a critical moment for ensuring that climate action (including adaptation\, loss and damage\, finance\, and mitigation) supports food systems and that food systems support climate action. \nThis webinar brings together stakeholders from Parties\, Intergovernmental Organizations\, and Civil Society Organizations to share perspectives on how the Global Stocktake — and initiatives aligned with it — can address the food-climate nexus in a way that is ambitious\, equitable\, and just. During the webinar\, participants will consider the following: \n\nHow should the Global Stocktake political outcome address food systems?\nHow can food system policies and initiatives help to course correct and achieve ambitious climate action called for by the Global Stocktake?
