SUMMARY:Animals for Biodiversity and Health: Launch of new guidance to support national implementation of the Global Action Plan on Biodiversity and Health
DESCRIPTION:At CBD COP17\, the World Federation for Animals will launch new practical policy guidance to support national implementation of the Global Action Plan (GAP) on Biodiversity and Health adopted under CBD decision 16/19. The guidance translates global commitments and actions from the Plan into a menu of practical policy options that governments can adapt to their national circumstances\, including through national biodiversity strategies and action plans\, One Health frameworks and relevant wildlife\, agriculture\, climate and health policies. \nThe guidance addresses wildlife protection and sustainable management\, biodiversity–climate interlinkages\, agricultural biodiversity and farm animal welfare. It demonstrates how animal health and welfare can strengthen biodiversity conservation\, public health\, resilient food systems and implementation of the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. The guidance has been developed in consultation with technical reviewers involving the University of College London\, the World Organisation for Animal Health\, the Landscape Alliance (CIFOR-ICRAF)\, and selected Parties. \nThe press conference will introduce the guidance\, highlight perspectives from government and technical partners\, and invite countries to consider relevant policy measures for integration into national biodiversity strategies and action plans\, One Health frameworks\, national development plans and other relevant sectoral policies and planning processes. \nSpeakers: \n\nJewel Omollo\, Environmental Policy Officer\, World Federation for Animals\nAdeline Lerambert\, International Policy Advisor\, Born Free Foundation\nMr Raphael Jozan\, Agriculture Affairs Counsellor\, representing the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty\, France\n\nWatch online: https://webtv.un.org/en/schedule
