The post holder will be part of a select core team and coordinate communications activities across our members and partners worldwide. 

Applications are encouraged from all regions. The role will be home-based with the possible occasional requirement for international travel. The role will cover full-time, 5 days per week, however part-time applications will be considered, including applications to cover specific components of the role profile. Remuneration will be negotiated dependent upon experience.

The WFA

The World Federation for Animals is a newly created worldwide coalition of impactful and world-renowned NGOs, created to advocate for animals at the global level.

Job Description

Job Title: Communications Manager

Location: Remote 

Line Manager: CEO

Line reports: None (at this time; potential to manage an additional staff member and/or volunteers in time)

Main responsibilities

Coordination and delivery of all external and internal communications for the WFA.

Repetitional management of the coalition and the WFA brand.

Engagement of members and strategic audiences.  

 

Main duties:

  • Provide communications content and delivery to assist WFA programme activity, ensuring messages are aligned to WFA policy and that brand values and key messages are communicated consistently through all channels.
  • Produce and deliver brand-enhancing and marketing communication materials for members and potential members, including writing social media posts, website content, press releases and acting as a spokesperson for the WFA.
  • Ensure efficient and effective day-to-day running of WFA social media profiles, internal communications and website, ensuring content is accurate, uptodate and user experience and search engine optimised. 
  • Build strong relations with communications teams of member and partner organisations, ensuring reliable relevant information flow, supporting and amplifying member communications and brand recognition, coordinating communication by members for WFA programmes, and keeping members informed and excited about WFA activity and plans.
  • Identify and seize opportunities for additional communications on WFA work, staying abreast of trends and news, harnessing relevant external activity to promote WFA messages, and building relations with journalists, external website providers and influencers to engage them to feature WFA content.
  • Monitor and evaluate communication activities, analysing the effectiveness of existing content and reporting key metrics, trends, events and opportunities.
  • Efficient management of day-to-day housekeeping, eg: managing administrator rights and logins, updating content and removing out-of-date information.

All WFA employees and volunteer are expected to:

  • Operate in an efficient and collaborative manner with colleagues within the WFA and its members.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Relevant experience in professional communications functions (3-5 years+)

SKILLS AND COMPETENCE

Creating tailored digital content, in particular strong writing skills (eg press releases) and ability to create visuals

Building collaborative relationships

Developing communications plans

Measuring the effectiveness of communications

Ability to manage workload and prioritise, and deliver to long and short deadline

Fluency in English

Excellent computer proficiency (Google Workspace, Google Analytics, CMSs, mailing systems)

Knowledgeable about social media platforms

Experience of communications in an international organisation or audience

Experience of communications within an NGO

Experience of communication on animal, environmental or health topics 

Coordinating communications across multiple organisations/individuals

Managing an intranet or content management system

Experience supporting others in coordinated communication plans

Experience managing delivery budgets
