The World Federation for Animals

The World Federation for Animals (WFA) is a global federation of 75+ NGOs working to embed animal welfare into sustainable development worldwide. We advocate for integrating animal welfare into international health, food, and environmental regimes, and trade and development finance rules. Since our establishment in 2020, WFA has become a UN-accredited force driving transformative change for animals by uniting peers and experts to influence global decision-making at the UN and other international institutions. The role

The PR Officer will play a critical role in enhancing WFA’s capacity to communicate with strategic audiences globally. The Officer will help WFA secure high-impact articles, op-eds, feature stories, and podcast invitations, ensuring that the Federation’s position and work are featured in mainstream and UN-relevant outlets. The Officer will leverage existing media relationships and build new ones to effectively position WFA, highlighting our work to diverse audiences worldwide.

Main areas of responsibility

  • Develop and implement a strategic public relations plan that aligns with WFA’s mission and advocacy goals.
  • Secure high-profile media coverage through op-eds, feature articles, interviews, and podcast invitations.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with key journalists, editors, and influencers across relevant sectors.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to craft compelling narratives and messaging that amplify WFA’s impact.
  • Monitor media trends and proactively identify opportunities to position WFA in relevant conversations.
  • Manage media inquiries and serve as a point of contact for press relations.
  • Support WFA’s leadership and members with media training and preparation for public engagements.

Key relationships

  • Reports to the Global Policy & Communications Manager
  • Works closely with the CEO, communications officer, policy team, and communications colleagues from WFA member organisations

Required Skills & Experience

You must have the right to work in your location as WFA cannot support any visa application process

  • Demonstrated experience in securing media coverage and developing PR strategies, ideally 4+ years.
  • Proven track record of securing media placements in high-impact outlets.
  • Experience planning, coordinating, and managing media events, including press briefings, panel discussions, and campaign launches.
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills with the ability to translate complex policy issues into compelling messages.
  • Existing media relationships within relevant sectors and a demonstrated ability to build new ones.
  • Strategic thinker with a proactive approach to identifying media opportunities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a global, remote team environment.
  • Knowledge of global issues related to animal welfare, sustainability, and international policy frameworks is an asset.

We offer a competitive gross salary package of USD 30,000 annually for a part-time role (2.5 days per week), which includes health insurance, generous holiday and paid leave, and opportunities for professional development.
