Animal Welfare, Governance

2024 was a year of strategic advocacy, collective action, and progress for animals on the global policy stage.

From influencing the AMR Political Declaration at the UN General Assembly to launching the Animals for Climate Action tool at COP29, WFA worked with members and partners across sectors. Together, we ensured animals were not left out of key global decisions.

The report reflects our continued role in shaping sustainable development policy. At CBD COP16, WFA’s unified recommendations contributed to strong outcomes for animals. At the High-Level Political Forum, we advocated for integrated solutions linking animal welfare to food systems transformation, climate action, and resilience.

Reflecting on the year’s achievements, James Yeates, CEO of WFA, noted:

Our achievements in 2024 show that animal welfare is increasingly recognised as essential to solving the world’s most pressing challenges—from climate change to global health. “This progress is only possible because of the dedication of our members and the strength of our movement.

Other highlights from the year include:

These first years since WFA’s foundation have been a successful pilot of what we can achieve together through the dedication and expertise of our members and secretariat. The Federation’s growth is proof of both the need for global collaboration and the trust the movement is placing in WFA.” Josef Pfabigan, President of WFA and CEO of FOUR PAWS
